Incredibly more than 6 million Americans have a ‘silent killer’ gnawing away at their health every day, but they have absolutely no idea. The deadly disease we are talking about is Diabetes, now the fastest growing disease in the world.

Current estimates say that 80 million people in the United States already have diabetes or are on the verge of developing it. Prominent figures, such as talk show host Oprah Winfrey have highlighted the problem. She said "It's time to get out of denial".

Facts

• Both types I and II, diabetes are becoming more prevalent in modern society
• Increasing number of elderly people are being diagnosed with Type II form
• According to the American Diabetic Association, in the United States 17.9 million children and adults have been diagnosed with the disease
• Around 1 in 4 are failing to receive the proper treatment because their condition has not been diagnosed.

Symptoms to watch out for that are characteristic of diabetes are excessive thirst, weight loss, blurred vision and increased fluid intake, to name a few.
